The Worrying Rise of ‘Superfake’ Hermes and Chanel Handbags

The increasing demand for ultra-luxury handbags such as Hermes Birkin, Hermes Kelly, and Chanel bags has also seen a steep rise in replica bags known as ‘superfakes’. These knock-off bags have been around for some years, however, a trend noticed by our authenticators at Baghunter has seen a shocking increase in these ‘superfake’ bags over the past few weeks. The term ‘superfake’ was coined a couple of years ago when replica bags which were of a much higher standard than normal fakes started to appear on the secondary market. Since then, the quality of ‘superfake’ bags has continued to increase, making it more and more difficult to spot the difference between them and the genuine article.

The design and quality of ‘superfake’ bags is such that to the untrained eye it is almost impossible to tell the difference. In fact, it has been claimed that even some industry experts can have a difficult time telling if one of these bags is genuine or not. Many ‘superfake’ bags are made from handcrafted leather, come with genuine handles, and some even feature genuine hardware. However, regardless of how good the bags looks, the overall quality is incomparable to genuine Hermes and Chanel bags which are made by hand by trained artisans.

There is also a moral issue with ‘superfake’ bags. Whereas standard fake bags might sell for $40 or $50, ‘superfakes’ sell for a much higher price which sometimes reaches four figures – still much less than a real bag. But, whereas original and genuine bags are made to international standards by a qualified and professional artisan, ‘superfakes’ are made in conditions which abuse a range of labor laws including child labor.

The increase in ‘superfake’ bags has been clear to see with our authenticators noticing more and more of these knock-offs appearing. This, combined with the increasing difficulty in telling the difference between a ‘superfake’ and a genuine bag is a pressing concern for people who are hoping to purchase a genuine Hermes or Chanel bag. We advise all prospective buyers to study our Authentication Guide and to only purchase bags from a trusted source who employ expert and experienced authenticators.

Go Green for St. Patrick’s Day

As it was St. Patrick’s Day this week, now is the perfect time to add a green bag to your collection. We have selected four green Hermes bags which would be the perfect addition to any collection in support of the Irish national day.

The versatility of green as a color is what makes it so appealing and next up we are delighted to have a Hermes Birkin 35 Canopee Green bag. The darker canopee green is a wonderful complement to any outfit and shows up beautifully on the Togo leather. Measuring 35cm x 28cm x 18cm, this bag is available in good condition and comes with a dust bag, lock, and keys. Rounding off this special collection of green bags is a Hermes Goodlock Clutch Pelouse. This stunning clutch is crafted from shiny crocodile skin, a material which is notoriously difficult to dye. Measuring 27.5cm x 16cm x 3cm, the clutch is in excellent condition and comes with the sleeper, cites certificate, and original Hermes box.

Baghunter’s Newest Finds for Sale

This week we are extremely excited to have acquired not one, but two Hermes Kelly Retourne bags. The first is a Hermes Kelly Retourne 32 Gold which is crafted from gold Togo leather. This leather is one of the most popular to feature on Hermes bags due to it being almost completely scratch-resistant and extremely lightweight. Perfectly complementing the leather is the gold hardware which offers a sophisticated finish to the bags design. This is a very rare bag and is almost impossible to find elsewhere. Measuring 32cm x 23cm x 12cm, the bag has come to us in pristine condition, meaning it is in the same condition it was when it left the factory. Our second acquisition this week is a Hermes Kelly Retourne 35 Black which is crafted from Clemence leather. This stunning bag features the rare and eye-catching black plomb color, which is extremely versatile and can match almost any outfit. Completing the stunning look of the bag is the palladium hardware which stands out against the black plomb colored leather. Measuring 35cm x 28cm x 18cm, the bag has come to us in pristine condition meaning it is in the same condition it was when it left the factory. It comes with the original Hermes box, dust bag, clochette, raincoat, receipt, care card, and the lock and keys.
